Overeating during the holidays: how to avoid

On any holiday there is delicious food, lots of delicious food. But overeating brings not only pleasure, but also big problems. Sometimes a person eats in an hour or two as much as would be enough for the whole day. In addition, during the holidays, a person often not only overeats, but also drinks a lot of alcohol.

The consequences of such a celebration are easy to predict: heaviness in the stomach, possible nausea, bloating, belching, heartburn. If all the listed symptoms are not complicated by pain and severe nausea, you can take such drugs as Creon 10000 or Lanzol Relief. These drugs will help get rid of unpleasant symptoms. It is also necessary to lie down and rest.

If the feeling of heaviness in the stomach persists for several hours, you can drink hot tea and not eat anything else that day. If there is severe pain, you should immediately consult a doctor – exacerbation of a chronic disease is possible.

The next day, it is better to eat little and it should be low-calorie food – vegetable broths, lean meat or fish. There is no need to starve; a single case of overeating will not bring excess weight.

In cases of overeating after a long strict diet, fasting, the risk of certain pathologies increases. The enzyme system is overloaded; diseases of the gastrointestinal tract develop, for example, gastritis, colitis, cholecystitis. In addition, you can really gain a few extra pounds due to swelling.

The most dangerous disease, which often develops when a person overeats various fatty, high-calorie dishes and snacks, and drinks alcoholic beverages, is acute pancreatitis – inflammation of the pancreas, which secretes the necessary digestive enzyme – pancreatic juice. Severe pain appears suddenly in the left hypochondrium, the person also has vomiting, nausea, as in severe poisoning. In this case, the patient should be in the hospital as soon as possible – delay can be fatal due to possible necrosis (complete atrophy) of the pancreatic tissue. A surgical operation may be necessary, in any case, recovery will take several months, the consequences will be felt for a lifetime – a person will have to follow a strict diet.

Basic rules to remember:

  1. If there is such an opportunity, eat before the holiday. This will allow you to prepare the digestive system and not overeat, because you will feel full.
  2. Take enzymes and adsorbents in advance – it is possible to avoid discomfort after eating.
  3. Try to eat slowly, take long pauses between meals, and distract yourself from food from time to time.
  4. Do not fast in the following days. After overeating, the digestive system secretes an increased amount of enzyme juices, they must be “used”. Therefore, eat as usual, otherwise it threatens exacerbation of inflammation of the stomach and increased risk of stones in the liver and gall bladder.

The best way not to overeat is to think about the consequences in advance and choose what is more important – short-term pleasure or health and well-being.
