Parkinson's

Features of physical activity in Parkinson’s disease

Remedial gymnastics is an important element in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. Exercise is useful for maintaining muscle tone, improving joint function, improving coordination and strengthening ligaments. Exercises for the shoulder girdle, neck muscles, torso, arms and legs are especially useful:

  • tilts, turns of the head to the right and to the left (the main principle is that the exercises are performed very slowly);
  • raising the shoulders;
  • circular movements in the shoulder joints;
  • extension of the knees (in turn);
  • bending of toes, hands;
  • back straightening, torso deviation.

In addition to remedial gymnastics, it is useful to dance with Parkinson’s disease. Argentine tango has a very good effect, because different groups of muscles and joints are involved in performing this dance. This method is used in the first and second stages of the disease. All methods of physical activity will be useful, but everyone should choose exercises that suit him. The main difficulty with this disease is that it is impossible to predict what symptoms and when to appear.

With this disease, a person can significantly slow down the disease. This requires a clear treatment plan and a positive attitude. The desire to recover activates the body and increases the chances of recovery. In addition, the prognosis is very different in those patients who, in addition to medical treatment, are engaged in physical activity, and those who only take pills. The most desired result, to stop the development of the disease, is obtained by those who acquire new knowledge. These can be both new movements and intellectual processes (for example, learning foreign languages or drawing).

If you have a predisposition to this disease, do preventive methods. These are not just measures to prevent disease, but to eliminate risk factors from your life. To prevent Parkinson’s disease, follow these guidelines:

  • undergo regular general medical examinations;
  • at the first signs of problems with the nervous system, consult a neurologist immediately;
  • avoid sports in which you can get a head injury (hand-to-hand combat, downhill skiing, boxing);
  • monitor your fitness. Get involved in running, swimming and yoga.
  • check the level of hormones in the body (this is especially important for women);
  • sleep at least 7 hours;
  • crochet or spend time on other hobbies;
  • engage in intellectual activities regularly.

Follow prevention methods and lead a healthy lifestyle. Remember that a comprehensive approach to treatment and rehabilitation will allow you to live a full life. Exercise is a great addition to medical treatment for Parkinson’s disease (Amantrel, Pramipex, Ropin). Studies show that exercise slows the onset of disability. In addition, daily exercise stimulates the motor centers of the brain. Due to this, the patient does not need high doses of medication.
