Seven ways to prevent vaginal candidiasis (thrush)

Anything can be the cause of this disease: from an improperly selected diet to severe stress. Most women have vaginal yeast – this is normal. They are not harmful in themselves, but, due to some circumstances, the yeast may become larger, which becomes the cause of the malaise. For the treatment of vaginal candidiasis, you need not only to visit a doctor, but also to try to understand the cause of the disease, especially if you have frequent relapses.

  1. Focus on probiotics.

Vaginal candidiasis often occurs after taking antibiotics – they kill healthy bacteria and promote yeast growth. To avoid unpleasant symptoms, include in your diet natural yogurts without additives.

  1. Wear underwear made from natural materials.

Synthetic materials are not so good like cotton or silk, and lead to sweating and rash. Subsequently, the increased moisture can turn the vulva into a target for infections. Choose underwear made from natural fabrics that will not fit too tightly to the body. The same goes for skinny jeans, tights or leggings.

  1. Avoid scented hygiene products

Poorly selected products (such as soaps or shower gels) can irritate the mucous membranes. Choose hygiene products with a neutral acid-base balance to keep your intimate health. Do not use harsh cleaning methods such as douching, as this can irritate, flush out protective bacteria and disturb the balance in the vagina. By choosing the right natural, hypoallergenic cosmetic product for intimate hygiene, you can get rid of skin irritations from regular or liquid soap and normalize the acid-base balance, which disturb by chlorinated water. High-quality daily care of the intimate area reduces the chance of vaginal candidiasis and helps take care of your women’s health.

  1. Think about things that come in contact with the skin.

If you are prone to yeast infections, try changing things that comes in contact with the skin in one way or another: sanitary pads, tampons, lotions, scrubs, fabric softeners, washing powders. The latter two can stay in the fabric and lead to infections. Try to choose the least aggressive products and take care of thoroughly rinsing clothes after washing.

  1. Do not forget about basic hygiene.

This is a basic rule, which is often ignored. Change your swimsuit or change into comfortable clothes after a swim or sauna session. Bacteria can spread through water and damp surfaces, so wearing damp clothes for too long can lead to infections. Change your leggings after exercise – sweat also promotes the growth of disease-causing organisms.

  1. Get enough sleep.

The immune system prevents diseases and yeast infections. Lack of sleep affects your body’s defenses. Try not to use gadgets an hour before bedtime and put on a sleep mask.

  1. Change your diet.

Yeast like fast carbohydrates, especially baked goods or sugar. Thus, if vaginal candidiasis recurs, it is time to think about switching to a low-carb diet.
