Vertigo

Why vertigo occurs after exercise: causes and solutions

Vertigo after exercise is quite common and only in some cases caused by serious health problems. This is often the result of a minor problem, such as mild dehydration. Let’s consider the main causes of dizziness after a workout.

  1. Fatigue.

You may have chosen inappropriate physical activity for yourself. For example, you immediately go for a long run. If this happens, you may feel dizzy during or after your workout. Shortness of breath, nausea, and weakness may also occur.

It is known that most injuries in fitness clubs (36.2% of all cases) occur in overtired people. Do not forget that fatigue can occur not only in the gym, but also during home training.

  1. Treadmill.

This condition can occur, for example, when training on a treadmill. When you run, dizziness can be caused by certain signals that your brain receives. After a long workout, the illusion arises that you are still moving and may persist for some time. This is also accompanied by mild dizziness.

  1. Dehydration.

Dehydration is most common in young children and the elderly, but anyone can also suffer from it. In the gym you should pay attention to the level of hydration. With sweating, we lose minerals and electrolytes, which are very important for the proper functioning of the body. For example, research shows that losing just 2% of your body water affects your mental performance. In addition, in this case you will feel not only dizziness but also thirst, dry mouth and weakness. Moreover, even mild dehydration can cause these symptoms.

  1. Lack of oxygen.

Also, your condition depends on how you breathe during exercise. If not deep, the body will not receive the necessary amount of oxygen for the functioning of muscles and brain. The brain will suffer from a lack of oxygen, and you, accordingly, from dizziness. Improper breathing not only slows down the weight loss process, but also causes irreparable damage to your body. Thus, it is obvious that you need to control your breathing during exercise.

  1. Low blood sugar.

Glucose is the main source of energy for the body. More glucose is needed during exercise. If you do not have time (or do not want) a snack before training, your blood sugar will not be enough for your muscles and brain to function properly. As a result, you may feel dizzy.

Follow these post-workout tips to get rid of dizziness:

  • try to calm down, sit down, put your head between your knees, breathe slowly and deeply for a few minutes;
  • drink water, sports drinks. If you have not eaten for some time, drink a glass of fruit juice or tea with sugar. You can also eat a banana, some grapes or dried fruit.

If the vertigo does not disappear, treatment will help (such as Gravol or Cerecetam). Be sure to visit a specialist if:

  • You have carefully checked all the possible causes of dizziness during and after training, but still have not found your own.
  • You believe that the cause of dizziness is your chronic illness.
  • The situation is repeated, although you take all precautions.
  • You are unconscious or have other symptoms such as chest pain.
