What is Fiprofort (Fipronil) used for?

Fiprofort (Fipronil) is a topical medication used for the treatment and control of fleas, ticks, and lice infestations affecting dogs. The medication operates by being absorbed into the bloodstream then disabling and killing any parasites that attempt to feed on the animal. It is normally used as a monthly control measure to prevent further infestations from occurring. This dosage is measured for dogs weighing up to ten kilograms. Your veterinarian may also recommend its use for the treatment of other unlisted conditions.

How should I use Fiprofort (Fipronil)?

Always follow your veterinarian's instructions and those included with the packaging while using Fiprofort (Fipronil) to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. The normal dosage is one pipette applied once each month, but the correct indication will be determined by the dog's age, weight, current health, and the severity of its symptoms. To apply the medication remove one pipette from its packaging, break off its tip, spread the hair between the dog's shoulder blades, and apply the medication directly to the skin. It is not necessary to rub it into the skin as it will be absorbed on its own. Dispose of the applicator and thoroughly wash your hands using soap and water to prevent the medication from contacting your own skin or mucous membranes. Ask your veterinarian any questions you have about using the medicine to ensure the correct administration.

What are the side effects of Fiprofort (Fipronil)?

Fiprofort (Fipronil) will not normally cause side effects in most dogs, although some may experience:

  • Mild fatigue
  • Dry or flaking skin
  • Mild redness or irritation of the skin

Contact the veterinarian as soon as possible if you witness any serious or worrying symptoms such as severe fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, or signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, skin rashes, swelling, or difficulty breathing. These conditions may require lower doses, reduced application frequency, or emergency medical attention to prevent further health complications from occurring.

Please Note

Fiprofort (Fipronil) is only meant to be used to treat dogs and should not be applied to other animals including humans. This medication is only meant to be used externally and should never be administered orally or around any mucous membranes. Do not apply the medication to skin that is broken or severely damaged.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Fiprofort (Fipronil). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
