What is Canditral (Itraconazole) used for?

Canditral (Itraconazole) is an oral antifungal medication prescribed to treat patients who are suffering from a wide variety of fungal infections. It operates by destroying or slowing the reproduction of fungus cells in the body making it easier for the immune system to eliminate the infection. This makes it useful for treating athlete's foot, jock itch, ring worm, oral thrush, vaginal thrush, nail infections, or systemic fungal infections. Your physician may also prescribe it to treat other conditions that are not listed here.

How should I use Canditral (Itraconazole)?

Always use Canditral (Itraconazole) according to your physician's instructions to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. The typical dosage is one tablet taken once or twice each day for a cycle of medication lasting one or two weeks, but your individual regimen will depend on the condition being treated, your current health, and the severity of your symptoms. Swallow the doses whole and unaltered with a full glass of water and a meal to prevent nausea. Do not stop taking the medication prior to being told to do so, even if your symptoms appear to be gone, as the infection may not be destroyed and can return stronger or more resistant to treatment. Never change the form of the tablets before use to avoid destroying or altering the effects of their contents. Ask your pharmacist or physician any questions you have about using the medication to ensure the correct application.

What are the side effects of Canditral (Itraconazole)?

Side effects that may occur while using Canditral (Itraconazole) include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Upset stomach, diarrhea, or constipation

  • Mild skin rash or irritation

Contact your physician immediately if you experience any worrying or intense side effects to make sure the proper adjustments are made to your dosage or application frequency to prevent further health complications from occurring.

Please Note

Do not begin using Canditral (Itraconazole) if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, lactose intolerant, or if you have porphyrias. It is also important to inform your physician if you are elderly, allergic to other antifungal medications, if the patient being treated is under the age of twelve, if you have heart failure, a history of liver problems caused by other medications, liver disease, decreased kidney function, or reduced liver function. These conditions may cause problems during treatment requiring special alterations to your regimen.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Canditral (Itraconazole). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
