What is Nicotinell TTS (Nicotine) used for?

Nicotinell TTS (Nicotine) is a transdermal patch used to aid patients who are attempting to give up smoking. Addiction to smoking is associated with nicotine which is the active ingredient in the patches. The device operates by releasing a steady amount of nicotine into the system throughout the day to help reduce cravings for cigarettes and the symptoms of withdrawal. This treatment is normally used along with changes to daily routines and counseling to make quitting easier.

How should I use Nicotinell TTS (Nicotine)?

Always follow the instructions provided by your physician while using Nicotinell TTS (Nicotine) to get the most effective results from treatment. One patch should be applied each day to a patch of skin that is free of wrinkles such as the upper arm, hip, or chest. To apply the patch remove one dose from the package, take off the backing, and press the adhesive side to the skin. Remove the patch before going to sleep and replace it with a new one the following day. It is not recommended to apply the patches in the same position for several days to prevent skin irritation. Your physician may instruct you to begin with a higher dose patch that is gradually reduced over a period of several weeks to gradually reduce the amount of nicotine required by the body. Be sure to ask your pharmacist or physician any questions you have about using the medication to ensure the correct administration.
