What is Fortekor Plus (Pimobendan/Benazepril Hydrochloride) used for?

Fortekor Plus is indicated in the treatment of dogs who have congestive heart failure resulting from atrioventricular valve insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy. The active ingredient in Fortekor Plus are Pimobendan and Benazepril Hydrochloride.

How should I use Fortekor Plus (Pimobendan/Benazepril Hydrochloride)?

Two dosages of Fortekor Plus are available:

• 1.25mg Pimobendan + 2.5mg Benazepril Hydrochloride (30 Tablets)
• 5mg Pimobendan + 10mg Benazepril Hydrochloride (30 Tablets)

Dosage is approximately 0.25mg - 0.5mg of pimobendan per kg of bodyweight and 0.5mg - 1mg of benazepril per kg of body weight. Use the following as a guideline:

• Dogs under 5kg: Half of a 1.25mg/2.5mg tablet twice a day
• Dogs 5kg - 10kg: One 1.25mg/2.5mg tablet twice a day
• Dogs 10kg - 20kg: Half a 5mg/10mg tablet twice a day
• Dogs 20kg - 40kg: One 5mg/10mg tablet twice a day
• Dogs over 40kg: Two 5mg/10mg tablets twice a day

Try to give the tablets as close to 12 hours apart as possible. They should be given one hour prior to feeding to minimize any gastrointestinal upset.

What are the side effects of Fortekor Plus (Pimobendan/Benazepril Hydrochloride)?

Side effects of Fortekor Plus are rare, but may include:

• a moderate positive chronotropic effect
• vomiting
• transient diarrhoea
• anorexia
• incoordination
• signs of fatigue

Side effects can be a sign that the dosage is too high. If you notice any side effects in your dog, speak to your vet about the possibility of reducing the dosage of Fortekor Plus.

Fortekor Plus is a medicine suitable for dogs only. It is not intended for use in any other animals or humans.

Fortekor Plus should not be taken by:

• dogs with cardiac output failure due to aortic or pulmonary stenosis
• dogs with hypotension (low blood pressure), hypovolemia (low blood volume)
• dogs with acute renal (kidney) failure
• dogs with dogs with and allergy or hypersensitivity to pimobendan, benazepril hydrochloride or any of the inactive ingredients in these tablets

Do not give Fortekor Plus to pregnant or lactating dogs.
