What is Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone) used for?

Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone) is an oral medication used to treat irritation, allergies, dermatitis, and eczema affecting dogs. It has the properties of an antihistamine and contains a combination of a corticosteroid and anti-tussive that work together to reduce swelling, irritation, pain, and coughing. The veterinarian may prescribe it to be used along with other medications or for the treatment of other unlisted conditions, as well.

How should I use Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone)?

Always follow the instructions provided by your veterinarian while using Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone) to ensure the safest results from treatment. The normal dosage is two daily doses that are based on the weight of the dog. The typical dose is half of a tablet for dogs up to 10 pounds, one tablet for dogs 11-20 pounds, two tablets for dogs weighing 21-40 pounds, or three tablets for dogs over 40 pounds. These are normally given for four days, after which the regimen should be cut in half. Do not stop administering the medication without tapering it off as this may cause health complications. The tablets may be administered with or without food and may be hidden in a meal or snack if the dog has difficulty taking them. Always ask your veterinarian any questions you have about using the medication to ensure the correct administration.

What are the side effects of Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone)?

The use of Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone) may cause side effects in some dogs such as:

  • Drowsiness
  • Slight tremors
  • Slight delay in the healing of wounds

Stop administering the medication and contact your veterinarian immediately if you observe any severe or worrying symptoms affecting your dog such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction including severe skin rashes, hives, swelling, or trouble breathing. These conditions may require lower doses, reduced frequency of administration, or immediate medical attention in serious or life threatening cases to prevent further complications from occurring.

Please Note

Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone) is only meant to treat dogs and should not be administered to other animals including humans. It is recommended to bring your dog in for a medical check before beginning use to ensure it does not have any underlying health conditions that may cause unexpected complications.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by the veterinarian while using Temaril-P (Trimeprazine/Prednisolone). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the dog and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain dogs, it is essential you always inform the veterinarian if your dog is pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if it has any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if it is taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if your dog has an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
