What is Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) used for?

Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) is an oral penicillin antibiotic prescribed to treat patients suffering from a wide variety of bacterial infections. The tablets contain a combination of two medications: one is an antibiotic that stops the reproduction of bacteria cells allowing the immune system to destroy them while the other helps overpower the resistances of some bacteria strains to treatment. It is commonly prescribed to treat patients with gonorrhea, Helicobacteria pylori, or infections affecting the skin, soft tissues, middle ear, urinary tract, or respiratory tract. Your physician may also prescribe it to treat other unlisted conditions.

How should I use Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid)?

Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) should always be used according to your physician's instructions to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. The normal dosage is one tablet taken two to three times each day for a cycle of medication lasting one or two weeks, but your individual directions will depend on the condition being treated, your current health, and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed with a full glass of water and may be taken on an empty stomach, but a snack or meal is recommended prior to use if you experience nausea. Never stop taking the medication prior to being told to, even if your symptoms seem to have disappeared, as the infection may not be gone and can return stronger or more resistant to treatment. Do not split, crush, or chew the tablets as this may destroy or alter the effects of their contents. Ask your pharmacist or physician any questions you have about the medication to ensure the correct administration.

What are the side effects of Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid)?

Side effects associated with the use of Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) include:

  • Headaches
  • Upset stomach, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Black, swollen, or "hairy" tongue

Immediately inform your physician if you experience any unusual symptoms that may require emergency medical attention such as flu symptoms, swollen glands, tingling sensations, numbness, sores appearing in or around the mouth, sensitive skin, easier bleeding, jaundice, or severe skin rash. These conditions may require lower doses or reduced application frequency to prevent unexpected health problems from occurring.

Please Note

Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) should not be used to treat patients who are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. You are also suggested to inform your physician if you have a history of allergies, glandular fever, or decreased kidney function as these conditions may cause unexpected complications requiring adjustments to your regimen.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Curam Duo (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
