What is Respidon (Risperidone) used for?

Respidon (Risperidone) is an antipsychotic medication prescribed to treat patients who are suffering from schizophrenia. It operates by adjusting the balance of chemicals in the brain to reduce symptoms that may occur including hallucinations, agitation, disorganized thinking, or delusions. It may also be useful for preventing manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder or symptoms of autism in young children or teenagers. Your physician may prescribe it for other unlisted conditions, as well.

How should I use Respidon (Risperidone)?

Respidon (Risperidone) is usually taken once or twice daily at a dosage of one tablet, but the best regimen for your condition will be determined by your doctor after observing the severity of your symptoms. The doses can be taken with or without food and should be swallowed along with a full glass of water to aid absorption. It is not recommended to change the form of the tablets before application to prevent unintentionally destroying or altering the effects of their contents. Ask your pharmacist or physician any questions you have before use to ensure the correct administration.

What are the side effects of Respidon (Risperidone)?

Respidon (Risperidone) may cause side effects in some patients such as:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness or drowsiness
  • Dry mouth, sore throat, or stuffy nose
  • Nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, or constipation
  • Sensations of hot or cold
  • Unexpected weight gain
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Mild skin rash

Inform your physician immediately if you experience any more serious side effects including confusion, nosebleeds, difficulty swallowing, flu symptoms, tremors, faintness, white patches on the lips or in the mouth, or a painful erection lasting longer than four hours. These conditions may require immediate medical attention or adjustments to your dosage to prevent further health problems from appearing.

Please Note

Do not begin using Respidon (Risperidone) if you have dementia or are lactose intolerant. Also disclose if you have hypertension, hypotension, history of strokes, diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease, slowed heart rate, history of blood clots, Parkinson's disease, prolactin dependent tumors, or high prolactin levels in the blood as these conditions may cause complications during treatment requiring adjustments to your dosage.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Respidon (Risperidone). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
