This usually happens after stress and before an important event. It would be nice to sleep and regain strength, but, unfortunately, you can not fall asleep and think about the past or future event. What to do in such situations and what to do when insomnia has become chronic? Try eating one of these foods at bedtime or try insomnia remedies.

Foods

Herbal tea. Herbal tea has a calming effect. This is a natural “antidote” for a restless body.

Honey. Add a little honey to warm milk or herbal tea and drink it. High levels of sugar stimulate, but a subsequent drop in blood glucose causes the brain to “turn off” the brain’s orexin system (orexin, a neurohormone responsible for nerve cell excitation) associated with alertness.

Potato. A few baked potatoes will not negatively affect your gastrointestinal tract, but will cleanse it of acids that can interfere with the action of tryptophan (an amino acid that has a calming effect).

Almond. A small handful of these nuts will help you fall asleep because they contain tryptophan and a large dose of magnesium.

Wholemeal bread. Eat toast with honey and drink tea. The hormone insulin will be produced to help tryptophan enter the brain, where it will be converted to serotonin and help you fall asleep.

Cornflakes. They stimulate the body to produce serotonin. Neurochemical reactions will provide rest, and milk fat will slow down the digestive process. As a result, the body “falls asleep”, and you fall asleep.

Drugs

Meloset 3. Meloset 3 (Melatonin) is an oral medication containing melatonin which is a naturally occurring hormone in the body. This hormone is known to be produced during night time and is associated with the sleep cycle making the medication useful as a short term treatment for insomnia or to readjust the body’s internal clock during jet lag. Your physician may also prescribe it to treat other unlisted conditions.

Ramitax. Ramitax (Ramelteon) is a hypnotic sedative. In cases of insomnia where people have trouble falling asleep, Ramitax can help with this by affecting melatonin in the brain.

Folk remedies

Folk remedies also help with insomnia:

Before going to bed it is useful to drink honey water: dissolve a spoonful of honey in 1 glass of water.

Decoction of valerian root will help you fall asleep: in 1.5 cups of boiling water add 2 tablespoons of dried valerian root, cover and heat for 15 minutes. Take 3 tablespoons after meals at bedtime. To improve sleep, you can smell a decoction (or tincture) of valerian. The dose for inhalation is individual for each person. You have to find it yourself. Inhale valerian alternately through each nostril, and soon you will feel the effect of this plant. An excellent remedy is ordinary tea, brewed with chamomile in a ratio of 1: 1. It is good to take a bath with herbs 3 times a week: calendula, mint, oregano. Such baths should be taken for 10 minutes each.

Each of us has experienced insomnia at least once in our lives.
